Summer is in full swing. Sun-warmed days, sandy 
skin, the particular softness of salt in the air. There 
are a thousand ways to spend the season, but ours 
tends to begin and end the same way: by the coast, 
barefoot when permitted, with something freshly 
pulled from the sea on the table and something 
chilled in hand. A dozen of the freshest oysters you 
could ever imagine. The slow, unhurried luxury of 
an afternoon that has nowhere particular to be.
Coastal Orange County is a haven for precisely this 
kind of afternoon. The light here is warmer than it 
has any right to be, the produce of the Pacific arrives 
daily, and a certain generosity of spirit runs through 
the best tables: an understanding that the season is 
short, the ocean is close, and a long lunch is a form 
of devotion.
